Things Cricket Bat Repair Services Do To Refurbish Your Bat

cricket bat repair services

The game of cricket is very intense, not to say very edgy. The batsmen and the ballers, each player, no matter what their specification is, often feel the pressure of the game. And not just the players, the pieces of equipment that they use are equally affected.

For instance, it is a common occurrence for cricket bats to get cracked open during lengthy matches, or sometimes even broken. Now depending upon how drastic the problem is, you have to make the decision to either get your bat refurbished from some cricket bat repair services or do it yourself at home.

To help you out a bit, in this article, we will talk about some of the steps that cricket bat repair services take to refurbish your bats.

1. Repair Cracks in the Toe of The Bat

More often than not, cricket bats get toe cracks — this is not a rare occurrence. And cricket bat repair services tend to fix this problem firsthand. That said, this is not something that cannot be fixed in the confines of your home. It’s quite simple, actually.

You just need some solid wood glue or twine, sandpaper, and oil. First and foremost, locate the cracks and fill it with glue. Make sure that you don’t leave out any spot and then finally, remove the extra glue and let it dry for about 24 hours.

Once this is done, follow through with these steps:

  • Scratch the cracked surface with sandpaper and then oil it with raw linseed oil.
  • Finally, wrap the now repaired area with twine or a bat tape.

2. Fix the Handle

Sometimes, the handle of the bat might also loosen or come off altogether. In this case, most bat repair services either reattach the handle for you or tighten it for you.

But it is nothing that you cannot do at home yourself.

Try to take out a page from their book. Have a look at how they do it:

  • First and foremost, cover the handle of your bat with solid, wood glue and insert it again to attach it to the body of the bat.
  • Tap it into place using a mallet, preferably a rubber mallet. Make sure to remove extra glue seeping out.
  • Hold the handle firmly in place and then finally allow it to sit for at least 48 hours.

Once this procedure is done, the handle will be fixed completely.

3. Replace the Anti-Scuff Sheet

This is one thing that you should take care of on your own. At the end of each cricket season or even if you are playing informally, you need to replace the anti-scruff sheet from time to time. However, after you remove the anti-scruff sheet make sure to apply two coats of linseed oil with 24 hours apart. And finally, apply a new anti-scruff sheet.
